Summary of Role:

Part of a highly successful Europe-wide group, we are a leading UK e-commerce business and one of the largest market leaders in printer consumables, printers and now stationery supplies, based in Cheshire.

Due to exceptional growth, we are looking for a highly competent and passionate developer to join our development team as Technical Lead in the new year.

Reporting directly to the Head of Development, this will be an interesting and engaging role. The Technical Lead's primary purpose will be to build and maintain a high performing development team which can deliver value to customers in the form of efficient, scalable, and maintainable systems.

  • Main Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure all code and supporting documentation is up to agreed standard. Review current standards, updating when appropriate to coincide with industry best-practices
    • Ensure that no code makes it into a release that hasn't been peer reviewed by an appropriate reviewer. Look to use technology and processes to reduce the number of issues caught by review
    • Testing should be automated as much as physically possible: from unit tests to integration tests, you will strive to increase coverage on legacy projects and start with high levels of coverage on greenfield projects
    • You will take part and have a say in how projects are architected, advising on the benefits and pitfalls of different approaches. Part of your responsibilities will be to investigate new technologies and solutions and see if they could be applied in a way to benefit the business
    • Investigate new technologies and solutions, evaluate if they could benefit the business. Maintain awareness of different architectural & design patterns and encourage their use where appropriate, passing on your knowledge to other members of the team
    • Uphold a firm understanding of the team's domain, including all services and how they interact, the data flows and their technological make-up. Create user stories as appropriate, discuss them with your team and stakeholders and break them down into achievable objectives. Reduce risks as much as possible
    • Be an active leader to the team, lead by example, work respectfully, address weak areas and celebrate strengths
    • Work with HR & recruitment agencies to ensure that you have an appropriate number of developers to take on the workload expected
    • Foster an inclusive environment where team members are not afraid to have their voice heard, and actively want to participate

    • C# (.Net Framework through to .Net Core and beyond)
    • Web Based Technologies (ASP.Net, MVC, Razor Pages, Javascript, HTML & CSS)
    • Client/Server Technologies (Services, Console applications, Win forms)
    • Testing (Unit Tests, Automated UI Tests)
    • Source Control (Git, Mercurial)
    • Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery
    • Application Monitoring (logging, NewRelic, Profiling)
    • Technical documentation
    • MS SQL Server (DB Design and Querying Data)
    • Knowledge of Software Development Methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall etc)
    • Design Patterns
  • Preferred but not essential:

    • Cloud Services & Infrastructure (AWS, Azure)
    • VB.Net
    • Leadership experience
    • Mentoring experience
